Comprehensive Family Practice
From Newborn to Adult
We offer comprehensive child health care services from newborn throughout childhood.
Regular checkups for you child can help to ensure optimal health outcomes.
Rourke Baby Record.
We use the The Rourke Baby Record (or RBR for short); This is a system that many Canadian doctors and other healthcare professionals use for well-baby and well-child visits for infants and children from 1 week to 5 years of age.
It includes forms (Guides I to V) for charting the well-baby visits and Resources pages 1 to 3 that summarize current information and provide links to supporting resources for healthcare professionals.
Contraception Management
We offer counselling regarding a variety of options for contraception management. We will help you find an option that is right for you.
Routine PAP Testing
We offer routine PAP testing or cervical cancer.
IUD Insertions
As part of our contraceptive services we provide IUD insertions including Nova T, Flexi-T and Mirena.
Incontinence Management
We can assist in assessment and management of a variety of cause of incontinence. We also will refer to a variety of specialists should your case warrant additional care.
Breast Cancer Surveillance
Including organizing routine mammograms and ultrasounds, arranging biopsies when necessary and support of the patient as they go through breast cancer treatment. Following treatment, we follow the patient for routine health and screen for recurrences.
Menopause Management
Includes the use of conventional hormone replacement therapy when appropriate. We also manage and investigate post-menopausal bleeding and perform endometrial biopsies when necessary.

Specialized care for knee and shoulder pain
We are excited to offer the MSK Clinic at Shale Medical—a streamlined, comprehensive solution for patients with knee and shoulder pain.
The service offers:
- Comprehensive initial assessments and structured follow-up appointments
- Thorough evaluations, including imaging orders when necessary
- Individualized treatment Plans, with customized rehabilitation programs
- Select braces and slings available for purchase and fitting on site; taping services available if indicated
- Direct referral to specialists when additional care is required
Services are provided by Courtney Titanich, an experienced Athletic Therapist with a proven track record in MSK assessment and management. Patients will consult with both the Athletic Therapist and the attending Physician to develop a diagnostic and management plan.

The clinic runs 4 days a week, with additional days added based on demand. To ensure rapid access, we target that all new injuries will be seen within 1 week and chronic pain will be triaged accordingly.
This service is funded in part by Alberta Health through the “Rural Team Based Grant”.
We aim to simplify care for patients while providing an efficient, high-quality option that integrates seamlessly with physician’s practice.
Annual Medical Exam
We recommend booking a routine medical checkup each year around the time of your birthday. We will conduct recommended health screening blood tests and cancer screening as well as review your regular medications and general well being.
Driver Medicals
We offer drivers medicals for all ages. You will complete a questionnaire and health exam with the physician. See our FEES section for more information.
Anesthetic Medicals
Before surgery you may need to complete a pre-op or anesthetic medical exam. You will complete a questionnaire and health exam with the physician. Be advised that dental anesthetic medical exams are not covered by Alberta Health Services; FEES apply.
NOTE: If your surgery is urgent please tell our staff to fit you in sooner.
Insurance Medicals
Completion of insurance forms and applications of various types is not routinely covered and there may be a fee associated. See our FEES section for more info.
State of the art surgical facilities allow us to perform a variety of minor procedures right in the clinic. After a consultation with your physician you will be given a scheduled appointment for your surgery. Generally procedures last 15-30min.
Biopsies
Biopsies for concerning lesions/lumps/bumps.
Excisions
Excisions of minor skin lesions, sebaceous cysts, lipomas, keratosis etc.
Wart Treatments
We offer a variety of treatment options including: cryotherapy, chemical treatment, cautery etc. FEES may apply.
Circumcision
Unfortunately we do not offer circumcisions at this time.
Shale Medical Clinic offers onsite counseling to help provide support to individuals in the community of Drayton Valley.
Mental Health has been on the sidelines of healthcare for far too long and as such,
we have taken steps to incorporate mental healthcare into our clinic.
We are please to have Alicja Kononowicz, BC-HIS, a registered hearing aid practitioner attend our clinic the first and third Tuesday of every month to run hearing testing.

Primary Care Network (PCN)
Our physicians are associated with the Drayton Valley Primary Care Network and as such are able extend additional services including:
- Mental Health Counselling
- Dietitian Care
- Chronic Disease Care with a specialized nurse (Diabetes, Chronic Lung Disease, Hypertension)
- 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
- Foot care for medically at risk patients (Diabetes, Peripheral Vascular Disease)
- Social Work Consultation
Drayton Valley Hospital
All of our Physicians have active privileges at Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Center and provide services including:
- Emergency Medicine Care
- Acute in-patient care
- Long-term Care
