Family Physician
Dr. Joel Giddey earned his medical degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa in 2010. Following his graduation, he completed his residency and community service at a 200-bed district hospital in the town of Helderberg. He went on to work at several private and public emergency rooms in the Cape Town area before relocating to Canada in 2014.
Currently, Dr. Giddey is based in Drayton Valley, where he splits his time between family practice, emergency work, and hospital rounds in both acute and long-term care. Additionally, he serves as a Clinical Lecturer for the University of Alberta Medical School, where he acts as a preceptor for medical students and residents. He is also a Clinical Assessor for the College for Physicians and Surgeons, conducting assessments for international medical graduates (IMGs) seeking to practice in Alberta.
In addition to his current roles, Dr. Joel Giddey has previously served on the board of directors of the local Primary Care Network (PCN) for six years, including two years as President. Through his leadership and guidance, he contributed to the development and implementation of several key initiatives aimed at improving primary healthcare delivery in the community.
Dr. Giddey remains committed to advancing the quality of healthcare for his patients and the wider community.
